Chris Barden: Citizens have lost trust in government because our state and national government officials are violating essential principles of good government. I seek a return to fiscal responsibility (end unwise spending) & constitutionally limited government. I will work to challenge, repeal, and reform the unwise, debt producing Obamacare law. As Attorney General I will work to reform our election system and ensure that Photo ID is implemented to protect the integrity of our votes. In contrast, the incumbent Attorney General has refused to challenge Obamacare and refuses to support PHOTO ID for election integrity. There is a clear choice this November.

Chris Barden: I am a private citizen running to return state government to essential principles including fiscal responsibility and sensible, limited government. As a national expert in law and health care policy, I have practiced law in Minnesota and across the country litigating hundreds of cases. I am also a licensed health care professional and have worked in medical centers and hospitals, taught at law and medical schools, and published in the leading professional journals in law, medicine, and social science. As Attorney General, I will join the challenge to block and repeal the unwise and improperly enacted Obamacare law. Over the past 20 years, I have worked with Attorneys General in many states to reform and improve the health care system.

Chris Barden: Incumbent government officials have engaged in runaway spending. We need to stop placing burdens of debt upon our citizens and children. To reduce unwise debt and prevent government control of our personal health care decisions, as Attorney General I will work to challenge, repeal, and defund the unwise Obamacare legislation. To protect the integrity of our elections I will work to implement a PHOTO ID system to ensure our votes are fairly and properly protected and counted. The continuous 40 year political machine control of the office of Attorney General must end so these reforms will be possible.
  7. What would you do to help balance the state budget?
  8. Sharon Anderson: 3 Branch's must downsize We do not need ALL THESE JUDGES WITH THEIR STAFF, RETIRED JUDGES sitting around doing nothing. Put the State on a Time Clock, with pdf files of Work Product Doctrine hold Accountable all State Employees. A similar article could be written about judicial appointments generally, both state and federal. The only thing worse than electing judges is appointing them.

There is an alternative to election and appointment: sortition. It should be combined, for the federal courts, with not appointing judges to particular courts, but to a federal pool from which they would be drawn at random to set on benches for limited terms, and get paid only for the cases they handle.
Chris Barden: Incumbent government officials have engaged in runaway spending. Like responsible families and citizens, government must learn to live within its means. Fiscal responsibility and sensible limited government are needed to end runaway spending. Our state government is out of date, ineffective, and in need of reform. Productivity reforms will permit cost reductions in government without reducing services. The single most important budget item is to challenge, repeal, and defund the unwise Obamacare legislation. Obamacare will place enormous and crushing new burdens of debt upon our state thus taking money we should reserve for schools, roads, and other essentials. I will also work to implement PHOTO ID and thus bring integrity and significant cost reductions to our election process.
  9. Should the attorney general’s office have more consumer protection powers? If so, how should those powers expand?
  10. Sharon Anderson: YES: Allegations of Lawyer_Judges Misconduct must be handled by the AG's Office to eliminate the Exclusive Franchise of Judges Judging Judges.
Chris Barden: The current Attorney General's Office is the product of a 40 year political machine which has brought scandals and turmoil to that once esteemed office. The current Attorney General refuses to protect Minnesota citizens from the unconstitutional and unwise law known as Obamacare. The single most important consumer protection issue in the history of Minnesota is protecting our state from the Obamacare legislation. Obamacare will place enormous and crushing new burdens of debt upon our state taking money we should reserve for schools, roads, and other essentials.
  11. Should the state join in a lawsuit against federal health care reform? Why or why not?

David Hoch: The people of Minnesota need to know they are being cheated and lied to.

MN Statute 3.9221 specifically detailed how the Tribal-State Compacts for the Regulation of Class III Gaming were to be negotiated by the State of MN. Gov.Perpich broke this law, thus rendering the Compacts null-and-void. Additionally, no Governor of MN has ever been given Legislative Authority to EXECUTE (or 'sign') these Compacts.

The smoking ban violates the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, as no STATE is allowed to make a law which favors or excludes a group based on their race.

MN is a 'Public Law 280' state, which means MN retains misdemeanor criminal jurisdiction over non-Native Americans on at least nine of the eleven Reservations in MN.

Slot machines have never been legalized in MN. In fact, it remains illegal in MN to possess/operate a 'Video Game of Chance'.

There is NO legal mechanism for the Federal Govt. to seize fee land from a State and put it into a Trust.
David Hoch: I am a lifelong Minnesotan, and for the past 14 years, I have been very active on behalf of the people of Minnesota. I have uncovered fraud and corruption, and it has got to stop. I care deeply about what the future holds for the people of Minnesota.
David Hoch: Equal protection under the law - for all people. Until this issue gets properly addressed, the good people of Minnesota will continue being cheated. Breaking people down into a thousand little ethnic groups, so they can all get State funding and enjoy special privileges, is destroying us.
David Hoch: Recommend either re-negotiation of the current Tribal-State Gaming Compacts, or recommend the state of Minnesota consider an off-Reservation casino where the state of MN gets a percentage. At least 90% of all Minnesotans agree with this. This by itself will not balance the budget, but it is a tremendous start.
David Hoch: No. The State cannot micro-manage every business transaction. Minnesota has enough Attorney-General oversight of industry. People need to read things before they sign them.

The Attorney General's office needs an overhaul - as it ignores laws here in Minnesota which violate the U.S. Constitution.
David Hoch: Yes. Socialized healthcare has not worked on a mass scale, and forcing states to 'get in line' appears to be an overstepping of Federal Authority. Look at the countries with this system of healthcare, and they are pretty much a disaster.

Lori Swanson: People deserve an Attorney General who is on their side. We’ve worked hard in my office to help ordinary citizens—whether it’s standing up for senior citizens against economic fraud, halting unfair credit card arbitration proceedings, or combating deceptive insurance company sales practices. I will keep fighting for ordinary people.
Lori Swanson: My office gets proven results for Minnesotans. This is reflected in our national recognition by Lawyers USA as a “Top Ten Attorney” in America and our receipt of the “Champion of Justice” Award from the National Consumer Law Center and the Pro Patria Award for supporting the National Guard/Reserve.
Lori Swanson: Special and corporate interests hire armies of lawyers and lobbyists, but people of modest means often face a stacked deck. My job is to go to bat for average Minnesotans, whether it’s corporate rip-offs, economic fraud, or public safety. The Attorney General should be on the side of the people.
Lori Swanson: Times are tough for families, businesses, and all levels of government. Government needs to be fiscally responsible. I substantially reduced the size of my office and increased the caseloads of the attorneys. I have also brought money into the state treasury by making corporations pay penalties for ripping off citizens.
Lori Swanson: The Attorney General should be a strong advocate for ordinary consumers. Congress should change the law to allow attorneys general to enforce more laws against credit card companies and national banks that deceive consumers through gimmicks and fine-print. The laws should be toughened against debt collectors who use underhanded tactics.
Lori Swanson: No. Citizens have deep and divided feelings about health care reform, but political differences are best resolved through the political process and not in the courtroom.
